When a freelancer says s/he is having a bad week

Saturday March 18, 2006

Of course this is a work of pure fiction, I have never had a week like this, ever!

Monday

Mondays suck but not for the reasons you might think. The feed reader is overflowing with new posts, a day’s worth of must do readingresearch for sure! Besides worked late over the weekend (see Saturday and Sunday) and am tired.

Tuesday

The rest of the world is over Monday and the emails and phone calls start. Spend all day talking to people. Open text editor late afternoon. Open feed reader. End up doing more research.

Wednesday

Get up 6am, do some actual work, until 6.15am. Open feed reader. Resume work at 9.35am (am no slave to the 9-5, no way!). 9.40am make another coffee, check out contacts photos on Flickr, ‘cos you can’t type [anything more than some comments] whilst you are drinking coffee. 12pm have lunch. 1pm do some actual work. 2pm congratulate self on a very productive day. Fire up feed reader to read some blogs, have worked hard today after all!

Thursday

Hey! think am getting the hang of this self-discipline lark. Spend the rest of the day reading lifehacker.com for tips on how to become even better.

Friday

Ah Friday, Friday. Fire up instant messaging client, end up chatting to a fair few people. Someone asks if have had a good week. The reply? Having a bit of a bad week actually but going to play catch up over the weekend. 3pm turn off IM client, must do some work. Reply to urgent emails. Check feed reader for anything essential. 4pm knock off early, after all am working over the weekend.

Saturday

Wake up at 11am, determined to catch up with some work. Stare at computer until 12pm, decide to go and do some shopping, it is the weekend after all. 5pm return home, dinner time. 7pm time to do some work. Fire up browser and check TV listings. 8pm Sit down to watch a film with a few beers, will catch up after the film. 10pm too drunk to work, have another beer. Go to bed.

Sunday

Wake up late with a hang over. Will work today but god damn it, it’s Sunday and no-one is paying me overtime, I’ll start when I am ready… damn it! 8pm panic sets in, start doing some actual work. 5am time for bed, it’s Monday tomorrow, back to work!
