Comment spam and Textpattern

Today I have been hit for the first time ever by what was possibly a spam bot. It wasn’t too bad but I’ve never heard of it happening on Textpattern before.

Needless to say the simplest way to prevent it for now is to moderate comments and ensure that comments turn themselves off after a week or two.

Anyone else had experiences with Textpattern and comment spam?

    I’ve had a few over the years, but they’re always manual. I’ve not seen a spambot yet. How do you know yours was a bot?

    I’ve have two or three instances of comment spam in the...two? years I’ve used Textpattern, but I think they were all human-entered.

    I use wordpress, and get several spam comments a week. Luckily they’re all taken care of by Spam Karma 2:

    never having used textpattern, is there nothing similar for textpattern you could use?

    Same here, yesterday about 50 in 2 minutes, today ‚Äòonly’ 15 of them. Reminds me of the glorious MovableType-times :-/ Seems like the comment spammers have found a way to bypass the spam-protection in Textpattern ...

    I have had the exact same thing happen on my site. I put my comments on moderation for a while (until the novelty wore off), then I eventually banned the IP address that the comments were coming from and switched back to normal, haven’t had any trouble since... although I still get some weird URL’s linking to my site.

    It’s only been manual spam for me, people blatantly linking their own sites and such. I might have had a bot once, but it must have been really terrible becuase I only got about three.
